Motorcycle dealer insurance

Demo rides, rider eligibility, theft and service work deserve specific attention when your inventory includes motorcycles.

Start with these exposures

  • On-road and off-road vehicle types
  • Demo rides and rider qualifications
  • Theft protection and service operations

Coverage considerations

Describe the motorcycles and other powersports units you sell, their values and how they are stored. Let us know about ATVs, side-by-sides or other vehicles as separate categories. Eligibility varies by insurer and vehicle type.

Explain demo rides and delivery practices. Ask which riders qualify, what license or age restrictions apply and how liability and damage to the motorcycle are handled. A customer’s existing insurance does not answer every question.

Review theft protection, locks, building security and overnight storage with your agent. Make sure the inventory limit reflects busy-season stock and high-value bikes, including any consigned units.

Service, customization, events, racing-related activity and rentals can materially change the exposure. Disclose them before quoting. Follow the licensing rules for the motorcycle dealer category in your state.

Compare the coverage and cost

Compare quotes for the same operations and coverage. Confirm the total policy cost, deductibles, payment terms and any exclusions affecting the way you do business.
