Business and licensing details
Have your legal business name, any DBA, business structure, physical address and mailing address ready. Include every location where vehicles are sold, repaired or stored. Tell us your dealer category, license status, number of plates and desired coverage date.
For an established dealership, include years in business and relevant industry experience. For a startup, describe the planned opening date and operations. If a licensing agency has requested particular insurance wording, send that request.
People, vehicles and operations
List owners, employees and other regular drivers, their duties and the vehicles they use. Explain test drives, take-home cars, auction pickups, delivery, repair work, towing, repossession, rentals and loaners. Include work performed through another company.
For inventory, prepare the average and peak total value, maximum value of one unit, financing arrangements, storage locations and security. Explain consigned vehicles separately. Marine dealers should also describe water demonstrations and storage afloat or ashore.
Current coverage and prior claims
Your declarations pages, current coverage forms or endorsements, renewal information and available loss runs help make the comparison useful. Include cancellations, lapses and claims honestly so the submission reflects the actual risk.
Send the written insurance requirements from your landlord, lender or business partner. A contract may ask for limits, additional-insured status or other provisions that do not appear on your current certificate.
Missing something?
Complete the information you have and identify what is still outstanding. The existing application lets you indicate that certain additional employee or driver details will follow. The reviewing team may need more information before an insurer can quote.
Submitting the application requests a quote. Coverage begins only after the required underwriting, acceptance and payment steps are completed and coverage is confirmed.
