Before choosing a line

Compare what happens after you buy the car.

The size of the credit line is only one part of the deal. These are the questions that make two offers easier to compare.

CompareWhat to ask
Inventory and purchase sourcesWhich vehicle types, ages and values qualify? Are auctions, trade-ins, street purchases and dealer-to-dealer purchases eligible?
Advance amountHow much of the purchase will the line finance? Are auction fees, transportation or other costs included?
Interest and feesWhat is the interest rate, and can it change? Check setup, transaction, term, extension, audit, title, late and payoff fees where applicable.
Aging and curtailmentsWhen does principal need to be paid down on an unsold unit? What happens at the end of the term? A curtailment is a principal payment, not just interest.
Payoff and titlesHow soon after sale is payoff due, how are funds applied, and when is the title released?
Audits and reportingHow often are inventory checks required? How are vehicles away for repair, transport or demonstrations handled?
Security and guaranteesWhat collateral, personal guarantee or other obligations are part of the agreement?
Inventory insuranceWhat limits, per-auto maximum, deductibles, covered locations and loss-payee wording does the lender require? Is a lender protection program included or charged separately?

Providers set their own rates, fees and credit limits. Promotional terms can change, so compare the written offer for your dealership.

Your lender and your insurance

Financed cars still need the right protection.

Garage liability and protection for the vehicles on your lot do different jobs. A lender’s collateral protection program may have different limits, exclusions and beneficiaries from your own dealer physical damage policy. Check how it handles cars paid for in cash, financed elsewhere, in transit or off the lot.

When two companies finance inventory, both lenders’ interests need to be addressed. A certificate by itself does not change the policy; the accepted coverage and loss-payee terms matter.

A real example from Indiana

A dealer’s October 6, 2026 quote included $500,000 garage liability and $250,000 inventory coverage, with a $25,000 maximum per auto and $1,000 comprehensive and collision deductibles. NextGear Capital and AFC were listed as loss payees. The total annual package premium was $3,264.
