Light, medium and heavy vehicles

Truck dealer insurance

A pickup dealer and a heavy commercial truck dealer have different exposures. Vehicle size, value, use and the people who drive them belong in the quote.

Start with these exposures

  • Vehicle classes, weights and values
  • Driver qualifications and road testing
  • Body work, upfitting and delivery

Coverage considerations

Tell us whether you sell pickups, vans, medium-duty trucks, tractors, trailers or specialty equipment. Include the heaviest units, maximum values, modifications and any vehicle upfitting or repair work.

Explain who moves inventory and how deliveries and demonstrations work. Driver licensing and qualifications should match the vehicles involved. Confirm the policy’s eligible vehicle types and driving uses rather than assuming the term “auto dealer” covers every commercial unit.

Review inventory limits, transit, towing and subcontracted transportation. If a truck has attached equipment or has been modified, explain how its value is documented and ask how a loss would be settled.

Business operations matter as much as sales. Rentals, leasing, hauling, repair and customer storage may need additional review. Send your licensing category and written contract requirements so those activities are reflected in the submission.

Compare the coverage and cost

Compare quotes for the same operations and coverage. Confirm the total policy cost, deductibles, payment terms and any exclusions affecting the way you do business.
